Every attitude has three components thoughts, feelings and actions (reflected as behavior). When we say what we think and feel, we are aligned with our behavior. When one does not agree with the thoughts of another and feigns agreement there is invariably a discrepancy between thoughts, feelings and actions which causes discomfort. Nobody likes this state of discomfort however one may choose to cope with it or come out of it. One may decide that the benefits of coping with this state gives them rewards and thus continue to cope with the discomfort of not aligning the thoughts feelings and actions or one may choose to align their thoughts, feelings and actions and say  “It is more important for me to be true to myself”.

For e.g., let’s say A has constantly said to himself and his friends “I don’t believe in love …love is a farce” and now is looking for a partner and seeking love in a relationship (which most human beings do) as subconsciously we all want to be loved, valued and appreciated. There is a discrepancy in A’s thoughts and feelings which will prevent a happy relationship from manifesting.

Let’s take another example B is ambitious and desires a lot of money and wealth, however he is constantly feeling or saying that “What I earn vanishes in the first week of the month”. Here again there is a discrepancy in thought, feelings and actions that prevents accumulation of wealth.

For being able to manifest our dreams and desires the first step is to align oneself in our thoughts, feelings and actions.

When we are truthful to ourselves and others around, it reflects in our personality and it is easier for one to earn respect of others even if they do not agree with us. However, if we are not internally aligned it becomes difficult for others to trust us for either our body language does not support us or our words don’t ring true as they lack conviction. The subtle signals sent by us give away our state of discomfort.

The more one is disconnected from one’s self the less we like ourselves, the whole journey of life is about loving one-self and then enveloping everyone around with love. The inward journey thus is more vital than the journey outside.

How do we know what is right thought to think, the right feeling to feel or the right action to take? Just like in school we are taught various subjects from scratch here too a good teacher can be invaluable, however very few formal schools help in this area. A good starting point is not to hurt anyone in our thoughts, not to hurt anyone’s feelings and not to hurt anyone verbally or physically and that in the true sense in non-violence.
